A Day in the Life of a UNIMAID Student

Published on March 7, 2025

The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) offers a unique student experience, filled with academic, social, and extracurricular activities. Whether you're a fresher or a final-year student, here’s a glimpse into what a typical day looks like for a UNIMAID student.

6:00 AM – Early Morning Hustle

Most students wake up early to prepare for the day. Hostel life starts with the usual routine: morning prayers, bathing, and getting ready for lectures. Students who live off-campus must factor in transportation time.

8:00 AM – Lectures Begin

By 8 AM, the campus is buzzing with students rushing to lecture halls. Lecture durations vary from one to three hours, depending on the course. Engineering, Medicine, and Law students usually have longer classes.

12:00 PM – Break Time & Quick Lunch

After a few hours of intense lectures, students take a break. Many visit the UNIMAID cafeteria or food vendors around campus for affordable meals like jollof rice, spaghetti, or the popular masa and suya.

2:00 PM – Library & Study Sessions

Many students head to the **Kashim Ibrahim Library** to study, research, or work on assignments. Group discussions are common, especially for students in Law, Medicine, and Social Sciences.

4:00 PM – Extracurricular Activities

UNIMAID is not all about books! Some students engage in **sports** (football, basketball, volleyball), while others join student organizations like the **UNIMAID Debate Club**, **Student Union Government (SUG)**, or departmental associations.

6:00 PM – Social Life & Networking

Evenings are for relaxation and socialization. Students hang out at popular spots like the **Students' Centre**, **cafeterias**, or hostels. This is a great time to connect with classmates, unwind, and share ideas.

8:00 PM – Personal Study & Assignments

Many students use this time to revise notes, work on assignments, or attend tutorials. Engineering and medical students, in particular, dedicate extra hours to studying due to the demanding nature of their courses.

10:00 PM – Relaxation & Sleep

After a long day, students unwind by watching movies, chatting with friends, or scrolling through social media. By midnight, most students are asleep, ready to start the cycle again the next day.

Final Thoughts

Life at UNIMAID is a mix of academics, fun, and personal growth. Students learn to balance their studies with social and extracurricular activities. It’s an experience that prepares them for life beyond the university.
